This temporary visa enables employers to address labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian worker.
About this Visa
Streams
There are different streams under which this visa can be applied:
- Short-term stream
- You can work in Australia for 2 to 4 years if an Iternational Trade Obligation (ITO) applies.
- Hong Kong passport holders can stay for up to 5 years.
- You can travel to and from Australia multiple times during visa validity period.
- You can apply for permanent residency, if eligible.
- You must be nominated to work in an occupation on the list of eligible short-term skilled occupations.
- You must have at least 2 years relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field.
- You must have a relevant skills assessment if this is required for your occupation.
- You can work only for your sponsor or associated entity, unless you are exempt
- You must meet minimum standards of English language proficiency unless you are exempt from needing to show this.
- Medium-term stream
- You can work and study in Australia for up to 4 years.
- Hong Kong passport holders can stay for up to 5 years.
- You can travel to and from Australia multiple times during visa validity period.
- You can apply for permanent residency, if eligible.
- You must be nominated to work in an occupation on the list of eligible medium and long-term skilled occupations.
- You must have at least 2 years relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field.
- You must have a relevant skills assessment if this is required for your occupation.
- You can work only for your sponsor or associated entity, unless you are exempt
- You must meet minimum standards of English language proficiency unless you are exempt from needing to show this.
- Labour Agreement stream
- You can work and study in Australia for up to 4 years.
- Hong Kong passport holders can stay for up to 5 years.
- You can travel to and from Australia multiple times during visa validity period.
- Hong Kong passport holders can apply for permanent residency, if eligible.
- You must be nominated to work in a specified occupation under the terms of a Labour Agreement.
- You must have at least 2 years relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field.
- You must have a relevant skills assessment if this is required for your occupation.
- You can work only for your sponsor.
- You must meet minimum standards of English language proficiency unless you are exempt from needing to show this.
