Streams
There are different streams under which this visa can be applied:
- Direct Entry stream
- You can live, work and study in Australia indefinitely.
- You can sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia.
- You can travel to and from Australia multiple times.
- You can enrol in Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare.
- You can apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.
- You must have an occupation that is on the list of eligible skilled occupations.
- You must have at least 3 years relevant work experience, unless you are exempt.
- You must have a positive skills assessment, unless you are exempt.
- You can work only for your sponsor or associated entity, unless you are exempt.
- You must meet minimum standards of English language.
- Labour Agreement stream
- You can live, work and study in Australia indefinitely.
- You can sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia.
- You can travel to and from Australia multiple times.
- You can enrol in Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare.
- You can apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.
- You must currently work, or will work, for your nominating employer who is party to a labour agreement.
- You must meet the age, skills and English language requirements of the labour agreement.
- Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream
- You can live, work and study in Australia indefinitely.
- You can sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia.
- You can travel to and from Australia multiple times.
- You can enrol in Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare.
- You can apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.
- You must hold a subclass 457, 482 or related Bridging visa A, B or C.
- You must usually, have worked for your employer for at least 3 years full time while holding a subclass 457 or 482 visa.
- You must have been nominated by an Australian employer whose nomination was approved in the 6 months before you apply.
- From 1 July 2022, eligible 457 and 482 – short term stream visa holders will be able to apply through the TRT stream. The pathway will be accessible for two years from its commencement on 1 July 2022.
