Temporary Graduate Visa

(subclass 485)

Overview

This is a temporary visa that allows international students to live, study and work after they  have finished their studies. The requirement to nominate an occupation from the skilled occupation list and obtain a skills assessment has been removed for Temporary Graduate visa Graduate Work stream applications lodged between 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.

About this Visa

This visa can be applied to under different streams:

  • Graduate Work Stream
  • Post-Study Work Stream
  • Second Post-Study Work Stream
  • Replacement Stream

After the grant of Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) under Graduate Work stream:

  • You can live, study and work in Australia temporarily, usually up to 18 months.
  • You can travel outside Australia multiple times during the validity of the visa.

 

Eligibility

Applicant Eligibility (subclass 485) under Graduate Work stream:

  • You must be under 50 years of age.
  • You must be the main holder of current student visa or must have held a student visa in past 6 months and now hold a BVA / BVB.
  • You must be inside Australia at the time of grant.
  • You must meet the “Australian Study Requirement” (ASR).
  • You must nominate an occupation and your skills must be assessed by relevant Assessing Authority. This is not a requirement for applications lodged between 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.
  • You must provide evidence of your English language skills.
  • You must be able to provide accommodation, general welfare and support to the student.
  • You must have health insurance during your stay in Australia.
  • You must meet Australian health and character requirements.
