About Student and Graduate Visas

The Student Visa Program allows non-citizens to study in Australia. The student must be enrolled in a registered course at an education provider that has been accredited under the Education Services Overseas Students Act 2000. Providers are recorded on a Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) and all courses that can be undertaken on a student visa have a CRICOS code.

There are two visas available in the Student Visa Program:

• Student Visa (Subclass 500) – This is a temporary visa that allows the holder to study in Australia.

• Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590) – This is a temporary visa that allows the holder to accompany a student visa holder who is under the age of 18 (or over 18 in specified circumstances).
