About Partner Visas
Australian citizens, permanent residents and eligible New Zealand Citizens (ENZC) can sponsor their married or de facto partners for visas. The first partner visa is a temporary or provisional partner visa (subclass 309/820) . Normally if the relationship remains genuine and continuing after two years a permanent partner visa (subclass 100/801) will be granted. For the partner visa application to be valid, both the temporary and permanent partner visa applications must be made at the same time.
There is also a prospective marriage visa (subclass 300) available for non-citizens to come to Australia to marry their sponsor.
