Overview
The subclass 173 visa is an off-shore temporary visa for eligible parents of eligible sponsors, who pay a lower second visa application charge than that for the subclass 143 visa before the visa is granted. The visa holder then has 2 years to apply for a permanent contributory parent visa and pay the rest of the second visa application charge.

- You can live, study and work in Australia for 2 years.
- You can travel to and from Australia multiple times during the 2 year period.
- You can apply for a permanent Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143) visa.
