About Parent Visas
Parent visas are available for the eligible parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents or Eligible New Zealand Citizens (ENZC). There are contributory and non-contributory options for parent visas.
Contributory Parent and Contributory Aged Parent visas are available for applicants who can afford to pay the sizable second visa application charge (VAC). The temporary Contributory Parent and Contributory Aged Parent visas offer an opportunity to pay part of that second VAC to obtain a temporary visa, then the balance to obtain the permanent visa.
The processing time is much shorter for contributory parent visa. The non-contributory parent visa classes are capped, which means that only a small number can be granted in a ‘program year’. Once the cap is reached the application is placed into the queue until it can be granted in another program year.
As per Department of Home Affairs website, there are a limited number of places available each year for Parent category visas. If you are a new applicant for a Parent (non-contributory) visa, your application will be queued, and you can expect to wait approximately 30 years after your queue date until visa decision.
