Becoming an Australian Citizen
You can become a citizen of Australia in different ways. You must meet certain criteria before you apply. There are different ways of becoming an Australian citizen:
- Become an Australian citizen (by conferral) – Aged 18-59: This is for permanent residents and Eligible New Zealand Citizens aged 18-59.
- Become an Australian citizen (by conferral) – Aged 60 years or over: This is for permanent residents and Eligible New Zealand Citizens aged 60 years or over.
- Become an Australian citizen (by descent): For people born overseas to a parent who is or was an Australian citizen and for parents to register a child born overseas.
