Overview

This is a permanent visa which lets the child adopted outside Australia move to Australia to live with their adoptive parents. The child must be outside Australia at the time of visa lodgement and grant.

About this Visa

After the grant of Adoption Visa (Subclass 102):

  • The child can live, study and work in Australia permanently.
  • The child can travel to and from Australia multiple times.
  • The child can access Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare.
  • If eligible, the child can apply for Australian citizenship.

  • The child must be adopted or in the process of being adopted.
  • The child must be sponsored by an eligible adoptive parent or prospective adoptive parent.
  • The child must be outside Australia at the time of visa lodgement and grant.
  • The child must be under 18 at the time of adoption, when the application is submitted and the time of visa grant.
  • The child must meet Australian health and character requirements.

 

Sponsor Eligibility
(subclass 102)

  • Must be either an Australian citizen or permanent resident or Eligible New Zealand Citizen.
  • Must be child’s adoptive parent or their prospective adoptive parent.
  • The sponsorship must be approved by Department of Home Affairs.
